What is Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE?

Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE

Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE is one of the most advanced driver assistance suites of active safety technologies on the market. Offered as standard in the vast majority of new Mazda vehicles, Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE is designed to keep you safe on the road and monitor potential danger to prevent collisions. On the other hand, Mazda is known for the driving pleasure provided by its vehicles, so you can rest assured that Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE never comes at the expense of agility or usability. The various systems will intervene only when needed, and they never distract from the driving experience. Here we take a look at the most impressive features of the Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE system.

Base features of Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE

BLIND SPOT MONITORING SYSTEM (BSM): Mazda’s Blind Spot Monitoring System radar technology scans for objects in the driver’s blind spots and notifies them with a warning light in the side mirror.

ADAPTIVE FRONT-LIGHTING SYSTEM (AFS): The Adaptive Front-lighting System further increases visibility at nighttime by adjusting headlights up to 15° when turning in either direction.

REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (RCTA): Rear Cross Traffic Alert provides an extra layer of safety when reversing by alerting the driver of vehicles approaching perpendicularly.

LANE DEPARTURE WARNING SYSTEM (LDWS): Lane Departure Warning System monitors lane markings on the street and will alert drivers if they are about to accidentally exit their lane.

HIGH BEAM CONTROL SYSTEM (HBC): The High Beam Control System makes driving at night at lot more enjoyable by quickly switching between low and high beams when you cross paths with another vehicle or the high beams aren’t needed.

SMART CITY BRAKE SUPPORT (SCBS): Smart City Brake Support preps the brakes for stopping and applies brakes automatically when an obstacle is detected at low speed.

MAZDA RADAR CRUISE CONTROL (MRCC): Mazda Radar Cruise Control helps maintain safe following distance from the car ahead when cruise control is activated, adjusting your speed based on the situation.

FORWARD OBSTRUCTION WARNING (FOW): Forward Obstruction Warning gives drivers ample time to brake or slow down by detecting potential collision risks down the road.

SMART BRAKE SUPPORT (SBS): Smart Brake Support protects from mid-high speed collisions by recognizing dangers up to 200 meters away and slowing the car or automatically braking if deemed necessary.

Advanced Mazda I-ACTIVESENSE features

Higher trims of various Mazda models will also feature Traffic Sign Recognition and Traffic Jam Assist along with the features offered above. Traffic Sign Recognition is very useful as it tells the driver the speed limit in the area they are driving. Sometimes, it can be difficult to know the speed limit when you’re driving somewhere new, but with the TSR system, you always know how fast you can go.

Traffic Jam Assist works in coordination with the Mazda Radar Cruise Control system and is designed to autonomously accelerate or slowdown in low-speed traffic. The system allows you to follow slow-moving vehicles ahead and keep a safe distance without having to constantly adjust the throttle. It makes driving in congestion a lot more relaxing.
