The all-new 2026 Mazda CX-5 makes the trim decision simpler than most compact SUVs. Every model uses the same 2.5 L 4-cylinder engine with 187 hp and 186 lb-ft of torque, a 6-speed automatic transmission and standard i-Activ all-wheel drive. That means the GS and GT drive the same way, carry the same cargo and use the same fuel. The real choice comes down to the features you touch, see and hear every day.
The GS adds the comfort and convenience items that round out the CX-5 for daily life. The GT then builds on the GS with leather, ventilated seats, Bose audio and extra lighting, plus two packages that unlock the most advanced CX-5 technology. Here is what each trim brings, so you can pick the one that matches the way you drive.
Both trims ride on the new, longer CX-5 body with a 2,815 mm wheelbase, which opens up rear legroom and cargo space. Behind the rear seats, you get 954 litres of cargo room. Fold the 40/20/40 rear seat down and that grows to 1,882 litres.
Both trims also share the same driving hardware. Mazda Intelligent Drive Select (Mi-Drive) offers Normal, Sport and Off-Road modes. G-Vectoring Control Plus now works with an electronic brake limited-slip differential to help with traction on slippery surfaces. Fuel consumption is rated at 9.9 L/100 km in the city, 7.9 L/100 km on the highway and 9.0 L/100 km overall, and both trims tow up to 1,500 lbs (680 kg).
Safety is shared too. Every CX-5 includes Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Speed Limit Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Blind Spot Monitoring, Vehicle Exit Warning, Emergency Lane Keeping, Driver Attention Alert, and front and rear parking sensors.
The GS is built for drivers who want a well-equipped daily driver at the heart of the lineup. It brings the features that matter on a cold morning or a long commute: a heated steering wheel, heated front seats, a front wiper de-icer and heated, power-folding exterior mirrors. A 10-way power driver’s seat with lumbar support and two memory settings makes it easy to share the SUV with a partner.
Inside, the GS uses leatherette and cloth upholstery with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. The 12.9-inch touchscreen runs Mazda Connect with Google built-in, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto pair with the wireless phone charger. A windshield-projected Active Driving Display keeps your speed and key driving info in your line of sight. Outside, 19-inch alloy wheels with machined, polished spokes and roof rails give the GS a finished look.
Key GS features:

The GT is for drivers who spend long hours behind the wheel and want a more upscale cabin. It moves to black leather-trimmed seats and adds ventilated front seats plus heated rear outboard seats, each with three settings. The front passenger also gets a 6-way power seat.
Sound and lighting take a clear step up. A 12-speaker Bose Premium Sound System comes standard, along with a three-month SiriusXM 360L trial. Front door ambient lighting lets you choose your colour, while foot lamps, an illuminated glove box and two rear USB-C charging ports make the cabin easier to use after dark. The Adaptive Front-lighting System also turns the headlights with your steering to light up curves.
On the outside, the GT wears 19-inch black metallic alloy wheels, LED front and rear signature lighting, piano black wheel arch and rocker trim, and a shark fin antenna.
Key GT features:
The GT is the only CX-5 trim that offers extra packages. The Panoramic Roof Package adds a power-sliding panoramic moonroof with one-touch open and close, which brightens the whole cabin.
The Premium Package requires the panoramic roof and turns the GT into the most advanced CX-5 you can order. It brings a 15.6-inch centre touchscreen, the largest display Mazda has ever offered. It also adds a hands-free power liftgate, paddle shifters and Driver Monitoring. Cruise and Traffic Support with Lane Change Support helps with driver-started lane changes between 70 and 140 km/h. A 360° View Monitor with See-Through View and the Driver Personalization System, which uses facial recognition to restore your seat and settings, round out the package.

Pick the GS if your priority is a smart, well-equipped CX-5 for everyday driving. You get the heated steering wheel, power liftgate, wireless smartphone connectivity, a head-up display and the exact same AWD hardware as the top trim.
Pick the GT if your passengers matter as much as the driver. Ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, leather and Bose audio make every trip more comfortable for the whole family. Add the Premium Package and you also get the biggest screen and the most complete set of driver assistance features in the CX-5 lineup.
The best way to settle GS versus GT is to sit in both, back to back. Book a test drive at Planète Mazda in Mirabel, and our sales team will walk you through each trim feature by feature so you can make your choice with confidence.
