This guide ranks the 2026 Mazda CX-30, CX-5, CX-70 and CX-90 by the space drivers use most often: the area behind the second row with every seat in place. It also lists the maximum volume with the rear seats folded, so you can match the numbers to the way you actually pack.

The CX-70 figures shown are for models with the moonroof. Models with the panoramic roof measure 1,122 L behind the second row and 2,132 L with the second row folded.
The CX-90 takes first place with 1,133 L behind the second row. It is also the only model in the lineup with a third row, and it still keeps 423 L of cargo space with every seat in use. The load floor behind the third row measures 527 mm long, which leaves room for grocery bags and school backpacks on a full family drive.
Fold both rear rows and the CX-90 opens up to 2,101 L. The cargo floor stretches 2,438 mm behind the front seats and 1,343 mm behind the second row, with 1,265 mm of width at the floor. The liftgate opening measures 1,106 mm wide and 742 mm tall, giving boxes and coolers a wide, tall opening to pass through.
The CX-90 seats up to eight people with a 2-3-3 layout. Second-row captain’s chairs are available on select trims for a seven-seat layout, and these cargo figures apply to both the eight-seat and seven-seat versions. The mild hybrid inline six-cylinder models and the plug-in hybrid models share the same numbers, so choosing a powertrain never costs you cargo room.
The CX-70 is Mazda’s mid-size, two-row SUV, and it finishes a very close second. Models with the moonroof offer 1,131 L behind the second row, only 2 L less than the CX-90. Models with the panoramic roof offer 1,122 L.
Fold the second row and the CX-70 moves to the front of the lineup. It opens up to 2,147 L with the moonroof and 2,132 L with the panoramic roof, both larger than the CX-90’s 2,101 L maximum. Without a third row, more of the vehicle’s length goes straight to the cargo floor, which runs 1,272 mm behind the second row and 2,245 mm behind the front seats.
That long, flat floor suits drivers who rarely fill the back seat but often carry bulky gear. Think skis, flat-pack furniture, a bike with the front wheel removed or a trunk full of camping equipment. The CX-70 gives you nearly the same everyday space as the CX-90 and the most folded-seat volume Mazda offers in an SUV.
The all-new third-generation CX-5 brings greatly improved rear seat and cargo space. Every 2026 trim, from the GX to the GS and GT, offers 954 L behind the rear seats. Fold those seats and the cargo area grows to 1,882 L.
Those numbers make the CX-5 a practical middle ground. It is easier to park than the two larger models, and its cargo area is sized for weekly groceries, luggage and sports gear. It suits small families who need one vehicle for school drop-offs during the week and road trips on the weekend.
When the load is too big for the cabin, the CX-5 can tow up to 1,500 lbs (680 kg) across all trims. That opens the door to a small utility trailer for yard waste or extra gear for the cottage.
The CX-30 is the most compact SUV in Mazda’s lineup, with 572 L behind the rear seats. Fold the rear seats and the space grows to 1,280 L, measured up to the ceiling.
The CX-30 suits solo drivers, couples and commuters who want an SUV that slips into tight parking spots. Its cargo area handles weekly groceries, a gym bag and a laptop case. Folding the rear seats turns it into a capable hauler for moving day or a trip to the garden centre.
