Why should you buy the 2023 Mazda MX-30 as your next electric vehicle?

Mazda MX-30 2023

The 2023 Mazda MX-30 made its market debut last year and immediately garnered attention for its electric powertrain as well as its one-of-a-kind design and impressive features. With more and more electric vehicles emerging in today’s market, Mazda’s MX-30 stands out from the rest, particularly for entry-level buyers seeking their first electric vehicle or anyone looking for an affordable EV that is a lot of fun to drive both on a winding road and in the city.

On the other hand, the 2023 Mazda MX-30 offers less range than its direct competitors, which has made a few potential buyers hesitate. But should you be worried about the Mazda MX-30’s range? Let’s take a closer look.

Does the 2023 Mazda MX-30 offer enough range?

Equipped with a 35.5-kWh battery, the Mazda MX-30 provides 161 kilometres of range, which is smaller than some other electric vehicles on the market. This may seem like a disadvantage for the MX-30, but it can actually be an advantage for you.

A smaller battery capacity translates to faster charge time. Range is important, but the most important characteristic of an electric vehicle is actually charging time. Think about it, do you worry how much range you have in a gas-powered vehicle? No, because you know if you are running low you can quickly stop and fill it up. Because the Mazda MX-30 has a smaller battery than its rivals, it is a lot easier to quickly stop and “fill up” the battery.

The 2023 Mazda MX-30 can fully charge battery in less than three hours when plugged into a Level II charger at home. In contrast, with most of its rivals taking around 8-10 hours for a full charge on a Level II charger, the MX-30 is twice as fast to charge on your home charger. On the road, it’s even quicker, charging to 80%  in just 37 minutes, half the time it takes to recharge a rival with a larger battery.

In other words, you get back on the road a lot sooner than most electric vehicles with the 2023 Mazda MX-30. You could argue that if takes 400 kilometres to reach your destination, you will get there sooner than any other EV because as both electric vehicles have to stop and charge, the MX-30 will be back on the road in half the time.

How far do you actually drive in a given day?

The other question you have to ask yourself is how much range do you actually need? Most drivers won’t go over 50 kilometres to and from work or drive over 100 km on the weekend. Therefore, 161 km of range is more than adequate for most needs.

In simple terms, Mazda isn’t concerned with beating other electric vehicles when it comes to on-paper range. It is more concerned with what EV owners actually need. That means:

  • More than enough range for 99% of your daily needs
  • Quick charging times

Lastly, it’s worth noting that the 2023 Mazda MX-30 is an incredibly affordable electric vehicle. Two versions are available – the GS starting at $42,650 and the GT for $47,650 – both before potential federal and provincial rebates of up to $12,000. This means you can have your own 2023 MX-30 for around $35,000*.

The 2023 Mazda MX-30 therefore offers tremendous value along with everything you need from your next electric vehicle. Oh, and it is a lot of fun to drive! Give us a call today to learn more.
